How This Registry Works

1

Log What You See

Spot a tree cozy or a knitted bench wrap? Add it to the map with the block name, yarn type, and date. A photo helps others find it.

2

Browse Your Block

Use the map to see what's installed nearby. Filter by yarn type or month to find specific work. Each colored cell is a block with at least one entry.

3

Track Over Time

The timeline shows your neighborhood's craft history. Watch installations appear season by season. Update entries when pieces change or come down.

4

Share and Export

Copy a shareable link to your registry view. Export all entries as JSON for your own records or to share with a knitting circle.

A Few Things to Know

  • All data lives in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
  • Clearing browser storage will remove your entries. Export first if you want a backup.
  • The map is a simplified grid, not real GPS. Block names are text only.
  • Photos are stored as data URLs. Very large images may not save. Keep them under 2MB.
  • This is a community project. Be kind in descriptions and respect public space.

Common Mistakes

  • Forgetting to set the date. The form defaults to today, but double-check it.
  • Using vague block names like "downtown." Be specific: "Main St between 2nd and 3rd."
  • Uploading huge photos. Resize to under 2MB for best results.
  • Not saving. The form does not auto-save. Click "Save Installation" when you're done.

Getting Started: A Quick Scenario

Imagine you just finished wrapping a telephone pole on Elm Street. You used acrylic yarn in three colors. Here's what to do: Click "Log an Installation." Enter "Elm St at 4th Ave" for the block. Pick "Acrylic" for yarn type. Set the date to today. Write a short description: "Three-color spiral wrap, about 6 feet tall." Add a photo if you want. Click save. Now check the map. Your block should appear in the grid. Open the timeline to see your entry at the top. That's it. You just added to your neighborhood's craft record.
